LICKING COUNTY, OHIO - - JUNE 9, 2016

GROW Licking County Community Improvement Corporation (GLC CIC) is pleased to announce that it received a Local Economic Assistance Program grant awarded by AEP Ohio.  The grant award of $6,000 will aid GROW Licking County CIC in pursuing an analysis of the Licking County’s available Fiber Optic technology for growth in the business and industrial sectors.

“Today, a wide variety of business segments, and the jobs associated with them, are reliant upon fast and dependable internet and networking connections,” said Mark Johns, mayor of Heath and chairman of the board for GROW Licking County. “AEP’s assistance in helping ensure Licking County meets those needs is an integral part of our future economic development success.”

Additionally, AEP Ohio LEAP funds will also be utilized towards the evaluation of possible public WIFI opportunities in strategic places throughout Licking County.

“As our communities continue to grow and new residents locate into Licking County, it is critical that we provide additional public amenities that are becoming the norm in many larger areas of the region,” said Nathan Strum, Executive Director of GROW Licking County.  “The option for public WIFI areas will not only promote more vibrant public spaces but also walkable districts where residents can go live, work, play, & invest here in Licking County.”

GROW Licking County anticipates beginning the analysis later this summer or early fall and concluding the evaluation sometime in early 2017.  If interested in learning about the project or participating as part of a steering committee for the evaluation, please contact GROW Licking County at info@growlickingcounty.org.
